OH MAN OH MAN TALK ABOUT HUMBLE BEGINNINGS First things first, Iām am so insanely grateful for every person along my journey in my career and passion for tattooingš„² I remember wanting to give up in the beginning. To be completely transparent tattooing isnāt something I got right off the bat. (Maybe some of it had to do with my first apprenticeship being when I used to live at the boarder of Mexico and there was most certainly a language barrier with my first mentor. But donāt get it twisted Iām still forever grateful for he who goes by Ricky Papi Cocoš¼) I was relentless, dedicated and determined. Committing to myself in knowing that my art skills would soon bleed into this new craft medium. āHard work beats talent, when talent fails to work hard.ā Obsession will beat talent every single time. You have to want to be better, You have to want it as badly as you want to breathe, To compete with yourself every single day. (Donāt go competing with other people, the more you focus on you, the faster youāll evolve into what your own version of success is) I remember back in those days, having screen savers on my phone and Apple watch with quotes like āI have a dream and a vision that I follow like a religionā. I had the ginormous pleasure of getting to start this Leo ļø goddess tattoo on one of my favorite humans Katie my last trip to San Diego at @theedgeink ! š§æTattooing is an exchange of energy, between the artist and client. It is so so so insanely important to pick an artist that makes you feel safe, heard, comfortable, confident, and down right just has the vibes that make the magic happen when tattooing. š§æYouāre allowed to ask to move the stencil as many times as needed, Youāre allowed to take breaks when needed, Youāre allowed a food break while getting tattooed. Youāre allowed to ātap outā. You are a HUMAN. Not just a canvas and a paycheck. š§æConnecting to my clients while I tattoo them is something I cherish so much and will never take for granted. To transform, and enter this new era I had to put to rest and grieve from the person in the first photo. [RIP girlšŖ¦] I had to rewire my brain into new ways of thinking if I was going to change my reality. AND IT FEELS CRAZY! But like in good way. I remember writing down in my journal earlier this year that I will have a private tattoo shop with big windows (gotta get that vitamin D fix), has too many plants (but is there ever really too many plants tho), a space thatās safe and inviting to any and everyone (inclusivity babyyy) I remember even writing it down to the month I would find the place, and sure enough April came around and the perfect spot was found! Quitting my job, then moving to a new state to open a new business has been both exhilarating and terrifying to say the least. But one thing that I wish was shared more when pursuing a new endeavor, is that not a single fucking person knows what theyāre doing when they start. They just start and figure it out on the way. So if you find something that lights your soul on fire, donāt get scared of the how. Thatāll come later, just start in anyway you can and the answers will find you.
